The Christie: Parent Information

Manchester Hospital School provides education for children and young people who cannot attend their usual school or college because of their medical or mental health needs. We have a school in The Christie so children can continue their education during their time there.

How does it work?

We work with you and your child’s school to create a bespoke curriculum which meets their individual needs and supports their wellbeing. This positive approach contributes to ensuring they are not disadvantaged by their time in hospital.

Pupils can access lessons in the on-site class room and sometimes virtually when this is more appropriate.

Most children receive daily sessions at some point during the school day, between 10am and 3.30pm.

Teaching is either delivered to individual pupils or very small groups dependent on the number of pupils on roll.

We may also be able to teach siblings of children undergoing treatment here.

Other Useful Resources

We can also provide services and resources such as:

  • Access to ipads, laptops and online learning resources
  • A quiet space for independent work
  • Teacher guidance for independent learners
  • Reading books

What happens when my child leaves hospital?

At the end of the student’s hospital stay we can work with their usual school to ensure a smooth transition back into learning.
