Evidence Informed Practice at Manchester Hospital School

At Manchester Hospital School we use the best available evidence from research to guide our policies, practice and the way that we teach, in order to improve the outcomes of our pupils. We continually reflect on our practice and use an evidence-informed approach to identify and implement improvements in line with our vision, ‘To be a beacon of excellence, providing high quality education which enables children and young people with medical and mental health needs to achieve and experience success’. For example, we have used research around cognitive science to inform our teaching approach and have developed a teaching model based on the theory of Rosenshine’s principle of instruction and our teaching and learning toolkit has been built considering the EEF’s 5 a day principle.

We adopt the EEF’s four part implementation model (Explore, Prepare, Deliver and Sustain) to select and embed evidence-informed approaches which are sustainable and have the greatest impact.

We are a member of the Wisdom Research Network and the Chartered College of Teaching, allowing us to ensure that we are fully equipped with knowledge of the latest research in pedagogy.
